KNX operating principle & benefits
KNX
Our times are characterized by rapid developments and high demands in all areas. The sector of electrical installations in buildings could of course not be an exception to this condition. Indeed, nowadays simple light switches and sockets are no longer sufficient. Modern man requires functions that increase comfort and safety, reduce energy consumption, have the possibility of central or individual control, ease of use, flexibility and adaptability to future changes of use and extensions.
In response to the demands of our times, in May 1990, 5 companies of the electrical installation industry came together and created a company called EIBA (European Installation Buss Association).
Today, more than 120 manufacturers of installation materials, electrical, heating, air conditioning and ventilation materials, household appliances and security systems industries participate in EIVA. The aim of EIVA is to create and promote in the respective European and global market an intelligent installation system for buildings (European Installation Buss).
Operating Principle
In addition to the power cable, a control cable, the Instabus cable, is installed, which is nothing more than a bipolar telephone cable. This interconnects all the devices and parts of the electrical installation, so that they “communicate” with each other according to specific programming that is done with a simple, compatible computer. In other words, a separate network is created for the circulation and transmission of the installation’s information.
In this way, only a few cables are routed to each point of the installation, while the functional interfaces are made by the programming of the installation. Thus, possible changes to the functions cost very little, since they can be done simply by reprogramming.
In short, with the Instabus EIB technique, an open, flexible environment is created in the building in which lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, electric blinds, communicate with each other and have a single way of management and operation.
Instabus EIB covers all the needs of every building and can be applied with the same ease to single-family houses, hotels, schools and large office complexes.
